White Papers Text

DIEZ is committed to integrating sustainable practices and smart city solutions into our operations and future developments. We adopt responsible environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices to ensure sustainability. Our smart city initiatives include AI-driven energy management systems, smart transportation, and advanced public services. These efforts not only enhance operational efficiency but also contribute to a sustainable future for Dubai. These efforts align with the city’s vision of becoming the world’s most future-ready city and supports the nation's Net Zero by 2050 goal.

In 2023, DIEZ achieved record sustainability results by reducing carbon emissions and adhering to responsible energy practices. Since its inception, DIEZ and its economic zones have prioritized sustainability, meeting international standards for energy efficiency and environmental design. Notable achievements include increasing LEED-certified buildings to 30, with a platinum rating and one with a LEED Earth rating. DIEZ also obtained LEED Zero Energy and LEED Zero Carbon certifications from the US Green Building Council for its headquarters at Dubai Airport Freezone, making it the first entity in the Middle East to attain these distinctions.

Additionally, DIEZ reduced energy consumption by 12% and increased solar energy generation by 30%, contributing to an annual production of about 5,000 MWh. The Authority also implemented adaptive air conditioning control systems, cutting electricity usage by 30%, and transitioned to LED lighting, resulting in more than 50% savings in total consumption. These efforts culminated in a 12% reduction in carbon emissions, equivalent to 5,280 metric tons, and a waste recycling rate exceeding 45%, solidifying Dubai and the UAE’s leadership in global climate action.
